A flat waist width and a full waist circumference are not the same number. An elastic waistband also needs a stated measuring condition, such as relaxed or stretched. Follow the seller’s diagram and compare like with like. Ask for clarification if a single waist figure is shown without explaining how it was taken.

Compare the shape along the leg

Use the rise, inseam, overall length and leg opening when those details are provided. A pair can fit at the waist but still sit differently or finish at the wrong length. For shorts, decide the coverage you want and compare a reference pair; do not assume that the same size letter gives the same cut.

Review the full front and back, both legs, the fastening, pockets and drawcords where applicable. Match the chosen colour and size to your saved order. Can I use my jeans size for track pants?
